Job Summary:
  • Capacity to lead, mentor, and coach supervised staff
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Demonstrates intermediate-level technological proficiency using various operating systems and software applications (examples include, but are not limited to: Google Drive and Chrome, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Demonstrates initiative by being a self-starter and effectively solving problems
  • Demonstrates a commitment to teamwork by being an effective communicator and engaging in respectful and productive work relationships
  • Actively responsible for their personal mastery through self-directed learning, and sharing knowledge gained with team members
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of part-time circulation staff
  • As a member of the supervisory team, regularly serves as the staff member in charge of the circulation department in the absence of a manager
  • Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of Baltimore County Public Library and branch guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Uses appropriate resources to assist customers in finding answers to a broad range of questions
  • Serves as a resource to others when answering policy and procedural questions
  • Performs circulation related tasks including, but not limited to: processing problem materials, new materials, serials, reserves, request manager, and withdrawn materials
  • Prepares cash drawers and makes bank deposits
  • Prepares reports required of Fiscal Services, Human Resources and other Administrative Offices

Job Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency is required
  • Knowledge of public library services and operations, acquired through one year of customer service is preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch and stretch for up to 5 minutes at a time to shelve materials in appropriate locations
  • Ability to shelve carts within specified timeframe
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 2 hours at a time
  • Ability to read small print
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, verbally and in writing, with customers and staff
  • Ability to sort materials in alphabetical and numerical order
  • Ability to process basic math transactions
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when making customer transaction decisions and enforcing rules and policies
  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to effectively work in an environment that serves people of diverse ages, cultures, abilities and skill levels
  • Must possess basic computer skills and be able to use different technologies to perform work duties and serve customers
