Circulation Assistant II

Two Positions Available.  Open shifts are as follows:

Tuesday: 9:00 am-1:00 pm
Wednesday: 9:00 am-1:00 OR 1:00-5:00 pm
Thursdays: 1:00-5:00 pm
Friday: 9:00 am-1:00 pm
Every Third Saturday: 9:00 am-5:30 pm
Every Third Sunday: 12:00-5:00 pm          

Job Summary:
  • Provides excellent customer services to internal and external customers
  • Demonstrates intermediate-level technological proficiency using various operating systems and software applications (examples include, but are not limited to: Google Drive and Chrome, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Uses critical and lateral thinking to proactively address situations as they arise
  • Exercises excellent judgment and problem solving skills
  • Serves as a customer service representative, assisting customers at their point of need
  • Uses technology to serve customers, providing technology related instruction and developing solutions
  • Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of Baltimore County Public Library and branch guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Shelves materials, maintains, and organizes the collection
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures
  • Under the direction of the Circulation Management team, accurately and efficiently completes routine circulation functions

Job Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or high school equivalency is preferred
  • One year of customer service is preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and stretch for up to 5 minutes at a time to shelve materials in appropriate locations
  • Ability to shelve carts within specified timeframes
  • Ability to stand at a public service desk for up to 2 hours at a time
  • Ability to read small print
  • Ability to sort materials in alphabetical and numerical order
  • Ability to process basic math transactions
  • Ability to concentrate on detailed tasks for 30 minutes or more at a time
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, verbally and in writing, with customers and staff at all times
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when making customer transaction decisions and enforcing rules and policies
  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to work in and environment that serves people of diverse ages, cultures, abilities and skill levels
  • Must possess basic computer skills and be able to use different technologies to perform work duties and serve customers
