Social Work Supervisor

Schedule:
This is a full time position working 40 hours a week. All library staff will be required to work evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the year as part of the normal work schedule.

Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Adult and Community Engagement Manager, the Social Worker Supervisor plans, coordinates and directs the Social Worker in the Library service. Provides leadership in the department and the system in developing and implementing social services that deliver a positive impact for Baltimore County residents. Provides social work services directly to customers on a limited basis.
  • Interprets and assists in the development of standards, procedures, and policies governing the operation of the Social Worker in the Library service and other social services
  • In collaboration with appropriate staff, develop and maintain measurable program outcomes and reporting methods; monitors and evaluates effectiveness and efficiency of services, ensuring compliance with all guidelines and standards and meeting all goals
  • Works in collaboration with other management team members to develop and implement programs and services aligned with community needs and system level priorities; integrates and coordinates the activities of the programs with other library programs and services
  • Hires, trains, supervises, develops, coaches and evaluates social workers
  • Provides coordination and oversight of staff and social services provided through contractual agreements
  • Provides direct public service and assistance to customers of all ages on a limited basis in branches and via mobile services, virtually or by phone
  • Develops collaborations and partnerships with organizations and Baltimore County agencies that provide services to vulnerable customers to ensure seamless coordination and maximize service delivery
  • Responsible for the maintenance of records and preparation of reports for services
  • Represents the library at meetings and conferences and on relevant boards or committees
  • Participates in outreach and education regarding services provided
  • Trains and supports library staff on issues affecting our most vulnerable community members; coordinates and develops resources for library staff such as resource sheets and guides, information for our website, and handouts for customers; in collaboration with appropriate staff, facilitates and coordinates training for staff to help them better understand the resources available for customers experiencing complex vulnerabilities
  • Must be able to meet scheduling requirements by arriving at work on time and staying until the end of one's shift
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends and be flexible with one's work schedule to meet daily operational requirement
  • Must have reliable transportation to fulfill the responsibilities of the position (including meetings, events and activities at other branch locations or offsite)

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Social Work from a college or university approved by the Council of Social Work Education
  • Four years of experience rendering professional social work services, one year of which was in a supervisory, consultant, or teaching capacity
  • Currently licensed by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners, as a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW/LCSW-C) and Registered Supervisor
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness and ability to acquire knowledge of library computer systems and applications and awareness of library services
  • Excellent communication skills, public speaking experience
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
