Schedule:
This part-time position will work 4-hour shifts between 1:00pm and 6:30pm on weekdays during the public school year (mid-August through mid-June).

Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Library Manager or Library Manager maintains an atmosphere and environment conducive to library use and enjoyment with an emphasis on positive interactions with teens. Circulates through all public areas of the library to promote customer engagement encounters that foster a welcoming and inclusive experience.
  • Focuses primarily on teenage customers inside the library and on library property through:
a. Engaging in and cultivating positive interactions;
b. Developing rapport to establish an enjoyable environment based on respect and responsible use of the library;
c. Providing support, guidance and exposure to resources available within the library and community;
d. Managing challenging interactions using appropriate tactics, including de-escalation and issuing short-terms bans; and
e. Educating and providing basic information regarding library rules, organization, locations, services and facilities;
  • Assists with programs and outreach events for teens based on operational needs of location, from individual to group instruction
  • Understands and enforces branch and system policies and procedures related to this position
  • Documents security situations through written reports and emails and communicates, verbally and in writing, any significant issues and incidents with Library Manager or other in-charge staff
  • Must be able to meet scheduling requirements by arriving to work on time and staying until the end of one's shift
  • Must have access to transportation, as needed, to fulfill the responsibilities of the position (including meetings, events and activities at other branch location or offsite)
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Computer skills demonstrated through the proficient use of Microsoft applications
  • One (1) year of experience working with teenagers through public/private school system, community engagement organization or similar
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch and stretch for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to read small print
