Schedule:
This is a full time position working 40 hours a week. All library staff may be required to work evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the year as part of the normal work schedule.

Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Youth & Family Engagement Manager, develops and coordinates programming, system initiatives, outreach, and spaces for youth in collaboration with branch, department and administrative staff.
  • Coordinates and implements system-wide library programs and initiatives for customers ages birth-18 and their families/caregivers. Regularly assesses and makes improvements to spaces, services and programs
  • Maintains an exceptional Youth and Family Engagement service model for the library by regularly assessing and making improvements to spaces, services and programs for customers ages birth-18 and their families/caregivers
  • Collaborates with branch librarians to implement developmentally appropriate and culturally competent programming for customers ages birth-18 and their families/caregivers
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure developmentally appropriate and culturally competent library collections, technology and media content for customers, ages birth-18 and their families/caregivers
  • Promotes system-wide programs and initiatives for youth in partnership with the Marketing and Development department using a variety of communication methods, including in-person, written, and video communications
  • Provides internal customer service to branch librarians serving youth by facilitating Children's and Teen Engagement Council meetings, presenting trainings and providing resources
  • Develops, implements and conducts county-wide and state-wide Youth & Family Engagement continuing education trainings
  • Collaborates with other agencies serving youth locally, state-wide and nationally to form partnerships, develop programming, and provide outreach opportunities for branch librarians and Youth & Family Engagement staff
  • Works with the department manager and other Youth and Family Engagement staff to effectively use department budget for system-wide priorities and initiatives for youth
  • Prepares and analyzes ongoing statistical reports to ensure quality services to youth in the county
  • Handles situations including de-escalation, handling internal customer issues, responding to mobile vehicle or office problems, documenting security incidents, and providing follow-up to department management
  • Must be able to meet scheduling requirements by arriving at work on time and staying until the end of one's shift
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends and be flexible with one's work schedule to meet daily operational requirement
  • Must have access to transportation, as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, including meetings, events and activities at other branch locations of offsite

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college
  • Successful completion of the Library Associates Training Institute (LATI) within two (2) years of date of hire, or 90 hours toward MLS from an ALA accredited school within two (2) years of date of hire with completion of MLS within 3 years of date of hire
  • Three (3) years of experience working with children in an educational or public library setting
  • One (1) year of customer service experience
  • Computer skills demonstrated through the proficient use of Microsoft applications
  • Experience training, leading teams, and communicating and working effectively with staff and stakeholders
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch and stretch for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for up to four (4) hours at a time
  • Must be able to read small print
