Schedule:
This is a full time position working 40 hours a week.  All library staff may be required to work evenings, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year as a part of the normal work schedule. 

Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Youth and Family Engagement Manager, manages and coordinates quality services, programs and engagement for youth (birth through high school), and their families and caregivers at branches and throughout the Baltimore County community.  Proactively develops and supervises Mobile Engagement staff.  Works in collaboration with other department staff to develop and implement a customer service and programming model aligned with community needs and system level priorities.

Essential Functions

  • Manages all aspects of mobile engagement services, including staff, outreach, scheduling, partnerships, programming, collection, security and vehicles within the department.
  • Provides day-to-day oversight and supervision of Youth and Family Engagement Librarians (mobile) to include recruitment, training, development, coaching and evaluation.
  • Partners with department manager to set seasonal and yearly goals and budget priorities for the Youth and Family Engagement department to align with system strategic plans.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure that high quality library services and resources are delivered to youth (birth through high school) and their families and caregivers.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the library collection and the provision of information, materials advisory and programming/outreach services to youth, families and caregivers of various abilities, cultures and skill levels.
  • Works effectively with county agencies, outside contractors and others who provide vehicle maintenance to minimize impact on ability to provide service.
  • Develops and manages partnerships with community groups for outreach to underserved areas of the community.
  • Serves as manager back-up with appropriate.
  • Monitors and analyzes data and prepares reports to ensure quality services to youth in the county.
  • Performs all essential mobile functions as determined by department and system needs and engages in direct customer service.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends and be flexible with one's work schedule to meet daily operational requirements.
  • Must have access to transportation, as needed, to fulfill the responsibilities of the position (including meetings, events and activities at other branch locations or offsite).
  • Drives outreach vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND
  • Successful completion of the Library Associates Training Institute (LATI) within two (2) years of date of hire OR 
  • 90 hours toward an MLS from an ALA accredited college with completion of MLS within three (3) years of date of hire OR
  • MLS or MLIS or similar degree from and ALA accredited college.  Must be able to secure Maryland State Department of Education Professional Librarian Certification. MLS/MLIS will be accepted in lieu of two (2) years of experience in a public library setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of library operations acquired through four (4) years of progressively responsible work in a public library.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Computer skills demonstrated through the proficient use of Microsoft applications.
  • Experience training, leading teams, and communicating and working effectively with staff and stakeholders.
  • Valid Driver's license in good standing.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crouch and stretch for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to read small print.

We have a 14 step pay scale. Internal applicants starting pay varies based on their current step on the salary scale. We also offer, as appropriate, overtime pay, comp. time, and differential pay.
