Technical Services Processing Assistant

This is a full time position, working 40 hours per week.  All library Administrative Office staff may be required to work evenings, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year as a part of the normal work schedule.

Job Summary:
  • Performs various physical processing functions, including but not limited to: creating labels; checking and verifying information in catalog records for accuracy; affixing labels and barcodes; applying and activating RFID tags; covering and gluing books; sorting processed material for delivery.
  • Uses the integrated library system (ILS) to update the bibliographic and item database.
  • Performs additional secondary jobs that may include but not be limited to: compiling monthly processing statistics; investigating material issues reported by staff and resolving those related to processing, forwards others to appropriate departments; gathering and processing standing orders; coordinating, producing and distributing replacement spine labels; coordinating, compiling, producing and distributing biweekly, system-wide spine label corrections; leading a team of staff that handles the Processing Procedure Manual and/or the gluing of materials.

Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrates intermediate-level technological proficiency using various operating systems and software applications (examples include, but are not limited to: SharePoint, Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull a wheeled cart weighing up to 185 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch and stretch for up to 5 minutes at at time.
  • Ability to read small print.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard, phone, fax and other office equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, verbally and in writing, with staff.
  • Ability to remember multiple details with high level of accuracy.
  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to effectively work in an environment that serves people of diverse ages, cultures, abilities and skill levels.
  • Must possess computer skills and be able to used different technologies to perform work duties and serve internal customers when needed.
